First mobile ICT application for HALIOS^®

Entry into new market – Core business ideally augmented

Dortmund: ELMOS Semiconductor AG has secured the usage of the HALIOS^® principle for a mobile ICT application with a telecommunications company. This telecom customer highly values the system-compatible and ready to use solution including the special package all protected by an extensive patent. The customer has obtained further HALIOS^® applications on an exclusive basis. The parties agreed that no further details of this agreement will be made public.
"This order provides an entrance to a new market for ELMOS", says Knut Hinrichs, CEO of ELMOS. "Our core business, the automotive industry, is augmented in an ideal way by this order." Technologies for the innovative mobile phone industry will subsequently also be used in the automotive market.
For the implementation of this application the subsidiary MECHALESS Systems develops hard- and software whereas ELMOS produces the application specific integrated circuits in Dortmund. The Dutch group company Eurasem provides the system suiting package. "With this product the ELMOS group continues its strategy of delivering tailor-made full-scale solutions to the customer", continues Hinrichs. "In the future ELMOS will continue to seek and market innovative technologies which offer a unique competitive position."
In 2001 ELMOS has acquired the exclusive rights for the optical measuring principle HALIOS^® (High Ambient Light Independent Optical System). HALIOS^® is characterized by the detection of 3-dimensional movements and independency of ambient influences. Optical interference effects such as strong light impact do not influence the performance. The electronic compensation of optical interference effects is the technically decisive function. Thus far more than ten product applications have been established by means of prototypes.

ELMOS Semiconductor AG is a developer and manufacturer of custom specific integrated system solutions based on semiconductors. For more than 20 years, ELMOS has generated about 90% of its net sales in the automotive electronics segment.
