The French automobile producer Citroën is the first automobile producer worldwide to integrate an optical Lane Departure Warning System in the Citroën C5. This optical Lane Departure Warning System is a development of the OEM VALEO and MECHALESS Systems in Karlsruhe . Based on the patented HALIOS^® technology, the sensor realizes if the driver crosses the white sign-posting. In case the driver is driving more than 80 km/h and forgot to set his indicator, to show his intention to change the lane, the system warns him via a vibrating alert integrated into the driver’s seat. Thus the system is an active contribution to reduce the number of accidents caused by tiredness or inattention.
