HALIOS^® systems open completely new application areas being a measurement principle free of mechanics and therefore free of mechanical wear.

Entirely new sensor systems and input devices become possible with this system offering clear qualitative as well as price advantages. As the HALIOS^® principle allows the sensor to be positioned behind a closed, arbitrarily formed surface, any ambient mechanical influences such as moisture or dirt are eliminated thus lowering production costs considerably.

In a joint project MECHALESS Systems and ELMOS Semiconductor AG developed the ICs 909.01 and 909.05.

With these the user is able to rapidly and flexibly implement such new input devices. For the first time it is now possible to realize a complete switch function with one small optical module positioned behind a closed translucent and thus water- and dust-proof surface.

Distances of several centimeters between the actual sensor element and the user-surface can be bridged without affecting the functionality of the sensor. In comparison to conventional systems positive-fit bondings and tight tolerance demands between PCB and user-surface are dispensed with.
